Student Restoration Science Presentations

6:30 p.m., April 28, 2004

Fuller Lodge

What have sixth graders from each of the Los Alamos elementary schools done this year to restore County Open Space?

Join the students at Fuller Lodge to hear presentations on their ecological discoveries and restoration projects in areas affected by bark beetles, fires, and flooding. The students have studied piñon mortality, stream channel Piñon Elementary students making mud for seed balls changes, recovery after the 1977 La Mesa Fire, invasive species, bluebirds, and more. For service projects the students have improved trails, planted more than 1,000 seedlings, made and distributed 30,000 seed balls with native grass and wildflowers, and helped reduce soil loss by building one-rock dams.

The public is invited to join this community-wide celebration of the power of our young citizens.
