Education Through Community Service

Lessons plans for teachers on fire ecology and post-fire monitoring now available

The Volunteer Task Force offers schools, community organizations, and adult volunteers the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational project that serve the community. School groups from around northern New Mexico participate in VTF Field Days, a collection of three activities geared toward specific grade levels and that meet New Mexico State Board of Education Standards in science, social studies, language arts, and more. A field day combines an environmental science study and a project such as planting trees in a burned area, trail building, or seeding the understory in a burned area.
